Welcome to this Quiz "How green is our area?".
We have designed it to establish your council's progress in setting out to take action over the issues created by climate change. It is intended to be completed by a clerk or a councillor, to help them assess progress towards becoming ready to tackle climate change. However, in fact, anyone could answer it in any community about their area.
We have based it on research and our experience, particularly concerning our Carbon Literacy Project training, which focuses on the need to engage with the community. For those councils which have not made as much progress as they might have done, it will also identify some of the areas they need to tackle.
The questionnaire is structured around a number of key topics:
- Commitment
- Energy
- Transport
- Buildings
- Food
- Stuff (what we buy)
- Business
- Countryside
- Youth
- Education
We think these are the main headings which should be addressed in a climate change "project".
At the end, you will get a statement saying whether you are Opal, Emerald, Ruby, or Diamond. We intend this just to give a summary indication of where your progress stands. Opal = you got 25 % of the points, Emerald up to 50 %, Ruby up to 75% and Diamond is greater than 75 %. Naturally, there will always be more to do (so 100 % does not mean the end!), but we thought it useful to get some overall statement of where councils are. You are welcome to use Diamond as a target.
You may feel that you do not know the answer to some of these questions. In which case we suggest that you should answer "No" rather than complicate the quiz through a lot of "Don't know"s. The communication process should allow people to know the answers to these questions!
It's just a guide as to where you are on the scale of Opal to Diamond.
We hope you find it useful, and any feedback would be very useful.
