Carbon Literacy for SMEs
Small to Medium Size businesses face a major challenge. They will not only have to create a carbon-neutral business within their “own walls” but will also need to comply with the demand of customers, looking to gain assurance that they are qualified to provide products and services which can be classified as Carbon Neutral. In due course they will need to report to the government on their status as a carbon-neutral organisation – including a calculation of their emissions, classified by Scope 1 (their own), Scope 2 (what they buy in) and Scope 3 (anything along their total supply chain.
About this course
If you feel that you need to do something to get started on your journey to combat climate change and are working for or with an SME, then through this course you will get the knowledge and tools to set you off on the right path. No previous environmental knowledge is needed.
Carbon Literacy is: “An awareness of the carbon dioxide costs and impacts of everyday activities and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions, on an individual, community and organisational basis.”
Over 51,000 citizens have already been certified Carbon Literate so far, with over 4,000 organisations having been engaged.
We have partnered with The Sustainable Life Coach to provide this training.
This course is aimed at representatives from SMEs who are looking to increase their awareness of carbon dioxide costs, impacts, and most importantly how to reduce emissions.
They will help you cut through some of the jargon around the Net Zero agenda and give you practical advice on how to begin to measure and reduce your emissions.
The course will enable you to empower your team to take climate action and will also give you the knowledge, skills and confidence to act to reduce your carbon emissions to support your company’s journey to Net Zero.
They recognise that the Climate Crisis is a big and overwhelming topic. They engage participants in a fun and interactive course that will leave you feeling empowered and inspired to take action.
By the end of the course, you will:
• Understand and explain the science around climate change and how it affects us globally and locally
• Have the tools and knowledge to reduce the carbon impact of your business
• Build your own climate pledges to take action on climate change
You will also be able to:
• Build a network of like-minded people
• Start collaborations
Training will be delivered online via Zoom through 2 X 3.5-hour sessions, and 1 hour of home-based activities required to complete the course. It will consist of a mixture of presentations, group activities, videos, quizzes and games. Please ensure you have a WiFi/internet connection and adequate equipment to fully participate in the course (it is not recommended to do the course via iPhone/Smartphone).
You will get the best out of the training using a laptop or PC (with a camera).
To receive the Carbon Literacy certification, you must submit an assessment form at the end of the course, which will be checked by the Carbon Literacy Project.
Sole Traders, Freelancers and Entrepreneurs
Sole Traders and Freelancers will also want to find out about how they can become Carbon Neutral in their businesses. We have partnered up with the Sustainable Life Coach to provide a course for this group of people.
In over seven hours of training (plus some homework) you will come away with
– two personalised pledges,
– the tools & knowledge to reduce your impact at work and at home
– how to build your own climate action plan for your business and lifestyle
– a lovely certification in Carbon Literacy (subject to final assessment)
– the opportunity to become part of a community working together to create a low-carbon society.
