The UK Government has published a new National Policy Planning (NPPF) framework.

The National Planning Policy Framework sets out the Government’s planning policies for England and how these should be applied1. It provides a framework within which locally-prepared plans can provide for sufficient housing and other development in a sustainable manner. Preparing and maintaining up-to-date plans should be seen as a priority in meeting this objective. It covers important aspects of making development in line with what is required for the “future of the planet”.

It addresses “sustainable development” and in particular states “

“The United Kingdom – has agreed to pursue the 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development in the period to 2030. These address social progress, economic well-being and environmental protection”.

Our education and training for Parish and Town councils deals with what needs to be built into these plans, how to ensure the neighbourhood plan is constructed, and how to engage communities in ensuring energy, transport, buildings, and diet will support the needs of the future planet.

It is crucial that Parish and Town councils fully understand what is required.
